About the event

Ready to take your hiking to the next level?Join Made Wild Adventures for a two-day introduction to scrambling in the heart of the Lake District for a hands-on weekend designed to build your confidence on steeper, more technical mountain terrain.


Over the weekend, we’ll explore some of the Lake District’s classic grade 1 scrambles, learning how to move safely and efficiently over rocky ground while soaking up incredible ridge-line views. You’ll develop essential skills in route choice, balance, movement, and risk awareness, all under the guidance of a qualified mountain leader.


This course is perfect for those who already enjoy hillwalking and want to bridge the gap between hiking and mountaineering. Expect plenty of challenge, laughs, and unforgettable scenery.


Location: Keswick, Lake District National Park (exact locations confirmed closer to the trip)

Dates: 22-23 Jul '27

Price: £220pp

Difficulty: Confident hillwalker with good fitness - no scrambling experience required

Group Size: Minimum 4, maximum 6 (minimum number has not yet been met)



What’s included:

Getting there:

We will be based in the northern Lake District close to both Keswick or Penrith which has a train station. There is brilliant public transport throughout the Lakes and plenty of parking at the meeting points for our hikes if you choose to drive. Car shares are encouraged where possible. If you are driving and can give others a lift pop it in the group chat and vice versa, if you need some help don’t be afraid to ask!



Itinerary


Saturday: We’ll start with an easier mountain route to introduce scrambling and build confidence on varied terrain. Focus areas include:

  • What scrambling actually is (and how it differs from hiking/climbing)

  • Safe movement on rock: footwork, balance, and body positioning

  • Route choice and reading the terrain

  • Building confidence on steeper ground

  • Group communication and pacing

Expect a full day of learning, practicing, and gradually increasing exposure and a debrief at the end of the day.


Sunday: Day two is where it all comes together on a classic Grade 1 scramble in the Lake District. We’ll cover:

  • Scrambling with flow and control

  • Managing steeper sections calmly

  • Decision-making in real mountain terrain

  • Spotting and supporting others in a group

  • Developing independence for future adventures


Some of the routes we may complete include Helvellyn via Striding Edge, Blencathra via Sharp Edge, Halls Fell Ridge or Jacks Rake in the Langdales. You’ll finish the weekend feeling more capable, confident, and ready to explore hands-on mountain routes safely as well as having ticked off some classic routes!
