Faster Doesn’t Always Mean Fitter

It’s easy to assume that faster means fitter, especially outdoors, where pace, distance, and time are often treated as shorthand for ability.
But the more time you spend outside, the more that assumption starts to fall apart.
Moving slowly isn’t the same as doing less. Slower movement often means more awareness: noticing the terrain, adjusting to the weather, managing energy, and making better decisions as the day unfolds. It’s not a lack of fitness, it’s not laziness, it’s a different kind of capability.
